Electronics Devices

Note: A new policy, dated August 23, 2010 will take effect on that day.  It will be posted here by the 28th of August.  A notice and copy of the updated policy will be sent home with students prior to the end of the first week of school.

The PGCPS Student Code of Conduct, page 6,  classifies the unauthorized use of electronic devices as a Level II offense.
Students committing level II offenses may be subject to (but not limited to) the following consequences:

  • parental contact by phone/written notification to parent
  • Behavioral probation
  • Administrator/teacher/student conference
  • Detention
  • Parent-shadowing
  • Exclusion from extra-curricular activities
  • Confiscation
  • In-School Suspension

Page 20 of the Student Code of Conduct states:
Unauthorized Use of Portable Communication Devices: Using any portable electronic device, including but not limited to cell phones, pagers, and wireless e-mail devices, for the purpose of sending and/or receiving messages during the instructional day and/or on the school bus without the expressed consent of the Principal. Use at unauthorized times will be treated as a class disruption. If the device continues to be a disruption, it is subject to confiscation by school personnel until the parent/guardian comes to school to retrieve it.

All cell phones must be turned OFF during the duration of the school day. This includes time on the bus both on the way to school and on the way home.

If a student is caught text messaging or using their cell phone, their cell phone will be confiscated and the  parent/guardian must come to the school to pick up the item. It will NOT be returned to to the student with a phone call.

Other electronic devices such as portable game systems are NOT a part of the educational process. Students are encouraged NOT to bring them to school, even if stored in their locker.  The student and parent assume ALL RISK for bringing the item to school. If it is damaged, lost, stolen or broken, the school will NOT assume responsibility for it.   Leave it home.
