Uniform Policy/Dress Code

Shirts/Tops

6th Grade – yellow (not gold) (MAIZE) polo shirt with a

collar

7th Grade – Burgundy (not red) polo shirt with collar

8th Grade – Royal (not navy) blue polo shirt with a collar

*Polo shirts ONLY.

*Students can ONLY wear the color designated for

their grade level

*On days when it is cold, students can a wear a solid color

turtleneck that is the color of their grade level polo shirt

under their regular polo shirt.

* All undershirts must be preferably white and worn under the shirt and cannot be visible.

* ALL students, boys and girls, MUST tuck in their shirts.

Shirts/Tops

1. T-shirts are NOT acceptable.
2. Shirts MUST be plain in color for each grade level.  Shirts/blouses cannot have any piping, embroidery, designs, logos, characters, names or numbers of any size.
3. Sleeveless blouses, fish net, crop type, v-necks, or halters are NOT acceptable.
4. Undershirts and tee-shirts should not be visible out of sleeves of shirts (don’t allow the shirt to hang lower than the actual shirt being worn)
5. Students are NOT permitted to wear jackets with hoods.
6. No sleeveless shirts, tops, fish net, crop tops, v-neck, halters, undershirts, or tee-shirts are allowed.
7. Students CANNOT wear another color shirt in lieu of their uniform shirt.

Other tops

1. All sweaters and cardigans must be worn over the uniform shirt.
2. All outerwear (fleece, sweaters, etc, must be the color of the student’s grade level.
3. If a student wears a V-neck sweater, it must be the same color of their grade level shirt.
4. Students can wear a basic sweater that is solid black, solid white, solid burgundy, solid  MAIZE (yellow), or solid ROYAL or NAVY (blue). It can only be solid in color.

Other tops

1. May not fall past waist (MUST be tucked in)
2. Cannot have a hood, zipper, designs, logos, characters, names or numbers of any size.
3. Jackets or coats are not allowed in classroom and must be kept in the student’s locker.
4. Shirts cannot be see-through, knit, low-cut, or revealing of flesh. Flesh or undergarments cannot be shown.

Belts

1. For ALL students: If the pants have belt loops, a belt MUST be worn at all times. Belts should be plain (solid) black and must have a basic size buckle.
2. Belts must be 2 ¼ in length or width
3. Belt buckles must be silver or gold.  No other color is acceptable.

Belts

1. No belts that are colorful, with designs, or with large buckles is acceptable.
2. No flashy belts with rhinestones, diamonds, or any other type of items on the belt.  Students must wear a solid (plain) black belt.
3. No belts hanging on the side.

Shoes

1. Plain (solid) black with no colored strips or insignias.
2. Stripe or insignia must be the same color as the tennis shoe being worn.
3. Shoe laces must be the same color of the shoe being worn.
4. Must be fully enclosed
5. Boots can be worn ONLY when there is a snow day and during inclement weather.
6. Hard-bottom shoes are HIGHLY discouraged due to safety and Physical Education.  During P.E., students CANNOT wear hard-bottom shoes.

*NIKE boots OR those that are like NIKE boots are acceptable as long as they are solid black and DO NOT have a hard sole or heel.

Shoes

1. Tennis shoes with the roller blade made within the sole of the shoe
2. Shoes may not contain colored stripes, additional colors, characters, names, letters, designer insignias of any size
3. Wearing snow boots when there is no snow
4. Wear boots in the building
5. No sandals, slippers, or flip-flops. Both feet must be covered.  No open-toe shoes.
6. No crock (plastic shoes) shoes/sandals are allowed.

Pants, Skorts, or Skirts

1. Navy blue pants with NO pockets on the side of legs (No other color is acceptable).  Cargo pants are NOT acceptable.

1. Uniform Pants MUST be worn SECURELY around the waist with a belt.  No sagging pants.
2. Pants must have a finished bottom (no cut-offs)
3. Blue skirts must be appropriate for the size of the student and for school (no shorter than 2 inches above the knee)

*Shorts will not be allowed to worn at school.

*There will be special days designated for special dress opportunities for Cheerleaders, Athletics, Young Men of Standard and Young Ladies of Excellence, etc. when approved by the principal.

*Students can purchase, at their expense, a polo, collared shirt with the APPROVED school’s mascot and can be worn as a uniform shirt.  It can only be the approved logo for the school.  Students cannot wear TJMS’s logo shirts that have not been approved by the principal.

Pants, Skorts, or Skirts

1. No cut-off pants
2. No shorts
3. No splitting or cutting of shorts or pants at the hem or bottom
4. Pants MUST be worn on the waist.  Sagging and baggy pants or shorts will NOT be accepted and will result in disciplinary action
5. No sweat pants
6. No Khaki pants – BLUE pants only.
7. No cargo pants (pants with pockets on the sides)
8. No pants with characters, letters, numbers, and designs of any size are allowed.
9. Pants cannot be rolled up or tucked into shoes, boots, or socks
10. Pants or shorts with patches
11. Mini skirts and skirts or skorts with splits will not be allowed.
12. Skirts that do not have a finished hem or bottom
13. No Capri, leggings, bell-bottom, or hip-huggers are NOT allowed
14. No jeans, unless permitted by the principal

Socks or Hosiery

1. Solid white or solid black socks can be worn.
2. Ankle or shin length socks are acceptable when a student wears pants only.
3. Socks should be visible above the shoes when wearing shorts.

Socks or Hosiery

1. Socks cannot have characters, multi-color print, designs, cutouts, holes, names, anything dangling or logos
2. No fish net stockings are allowed
3. No leggings of any kind are acceptable

Jewelry and Accessories

1. Neck jewelry is discouraged, but, if worn, CANNOT be visible and MUST be worn INSIDE of student’s shirt.
2. Earrings CANNOT be larger than a dime
3. No more than two rings (one per hand can be worn)

Jewelry and Accessories

1. Jewelry should not pose a safety hazard.  When it does, the student will remove it and will be confiscated by an administrator. Rings that are deemed inappropriate or too large for school are NOT permitted and will be removed.
2. No pinned buttons
3. Bracelets, charms, may not be replicas of weapons or contraband.
4. No Bangles
5. No dangling or hanging earringsthat exceed a dime in size and/or diameter
6. Body Piercing (face, tongue, lips, nose, eye brows, more than 1 hole on each ear)
7. Wearing of rings on several fingers at one time .
8. Distractive mouth pieces that are not medically prescribed

Hair Accessories and Cuts/Styles

1. Ribbons, barrettes, pony tails, beads are acceptable (please minimize). When this becomes excessive, the student will be asked to minimize the excessiveness.
2. Hair jewelry is NOT encouraged and hairstyles MUST be appropriate for children in middle school. Mature and distractive styles will not be accepted.

Hair Accessories and Cuts/Styles

1. Headbands, hats, bandanas, scarves, do-rags, skull caps, strings
2. No picks or combs in hair
3. Emblems, designs, numbers, characters, etc cut in hair are NOT appropriate.
4. Hairstyles that are distracting and those that draw attention from the purpose of school
5. Loud and/or distractive colored hair
6. Excessive designs cut into the head are NOT acceptable.  A basic part is acceptable.

Physical Education

1. Students must purchase the approved TJMS PE uniform.  It has to be ordered through the school.
2. Solid Black tennis shoes
3. Solid Black or Solid White socks.

*No other modifications to the PE uniform will be accepted.

Physical Education

1. No modification to PE uniform is acceptable.
2. No colored socks and shoes.  Black shoes ONLY.
3. No jean shorts are acceptable
